11 to 13 April 2015 to the MY FAIR, the international art fair dedicated to photography and the moving image, the Franco-Italian photographer Caroline Gavazzi will be present with Fear, a work that the artist who created the 2014 at the De Beauvoir Primary School in Hackney, at one of the many initiatives promoted by Pinksie the Whale, international educational project launched in London in 2012 with the aim of bringing the arts in schools as an educational experience, celebrate the value of diversity and enhance the sensitivity of the child in the help of neighbor.
In his work Caroline explores the fears most common in children with the aim of fostering dialogue and activate a process of introspection. The artist invites the viewer to interact effectively with the image, to raise the muslin cloth and then reveal the fear that there is hidden under, going beyond a mere superficial view. The result of this is extremely interesting unmasking, because some viewers feel an almost liberating, while others take comfort in realizing that these fears are often shared with other people. This cloth has a strong symbolism for Caroline, as is the cloth used by infants to derive comfort and sense of security, while going beyond appearances is a recurring theme in his works.
Pinksie the Whale is an international project launched in London in 2012 with the goal of teaching children to be imaginative, intellectually curious and passionate, open to different realities and more aware of self and others. An idea born from the friendship of 6 women – Matilde Battistini, Marcella Caricasole, Katinka Donagemma, Elizabeth Oddono, Bea Tartarone e Maria Stella Wirz – who believe that the individuality and creativity are to be taught and cultivated right away during the years of learning. Activities Pinksie are inspired by the books of the Whale Pinksie, a pink whale that addresses magical adventures to overcome his fear of diversity. Pinksie annually publishes a new book in the series Pinksie the Whale, collaborates with schools, artists, galleries, museums and organizes creative workshops, exhibitions, readings and charity events to raise funds for children.
