Museum of Contemporary Art in Rome and Deutsche Bank strengthen the partnership initiated in 2012 that brings in Italy the Premio Deutsche Bank’s “Artist of the Year”, annual award for young artists who have distinguished themselves for creativity and the significance of their work.
MACRO hosts winner of 2013 Imran Qureshi (1972), Pakistani artist, currently on display at the 55. International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale as part of The Encyclopedic Palace (1 June - 24 November 2013) e al Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (14 may - 14 November 2013).
The exposure, first solo show in a public Italian, It is edited by Friedhelm Hütte, Global Head for Art at Deutsche Bank and Bartolomeo Pietromarchi. Inaugurated in April 2013 the new Kunsthalle Deutsche Bank in Berlin (18 April - 4 August 2013), The exhibition will be at MACRO from 25 September to 17 November 2013.
The search Qureshi is characterized by a fusion of tradition and modernity. In his works, in fact, motifs and traditional techniques - such as the ancient practice of Mughal miniature (developed between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in the Indian sub-continent), floral ornaments, the use of gold or oval shapes - live together in indissoluble way with a thought of a conceptual nature and with a contemporary abstract painting.
Pakistan is a constant presence in his work, not only as regards the tradition linked to visual: the artist puts it in his work on the historical events and personal observations on today's reality of his country, thus becoming a symbol of universal issues, starting point for a reflection that involves religions, cultures and societies too far, but nearby in a globalized world.
Exposed about 35 and two works site-specific interventions in which the artist leaves the canvas to address and invade the exhibition space.
